Verification Process

Prev Next

Verification in Blackcat is entirely digital and takes place directly in the mobile app. The process is designed to be smooth, fast, and compliant with European regulations. In most cases it’s finished within minutes, but sometimes additional checks may extend it to one business day.

Below is a step-by-step walkthrough with all the details you should know.

Step 1: Enter your date of birth and country of residence

  • Why this matters: your age defines which services are available to you (e.g. from 16 you can open an account, from 18 you can access crypto).

  • Residence: it’s not about physical location — it’s about your legal residency status (citizenship, residence permit, or other official proof).

  • Tip: Make sure you select your actual residency country; inconsistencies here will block later stages.

Step 2: Accept agreements and enter promo code (optional)

  • You’ll see our Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and related documents. These are mandatory to proceed.

  • If you’ve been invited or received a promo code, enter it now. Promo codes cannot be added later.

Step 3: Phone number confirmation

  • Enter your mobile number.

  • You’ll immediately get an SMS with a one-time code.

  • Enter the code to confirm that this number belongs to you.

  • Tip: Use a number that you plan to keep long-term. It will be tied to your account for notifications, security checks, and login recovery.

Step 4: Email confirmation

  • Provide your email address.

  • A confirmation code will be sent instantly — enter it in the app.

  • Note: The email must be unique (not already linked to another Blackcat account).

  • Tip: Use a personal, secure email with two-factor authentication enabled.

Step 5: Identity document scan + selfie

This is the most important step for KYC (Know Your Customer).

  • You’ll need to scan your valid passport or national ID card using your phone camera.

  • Then you’ll take a live selfie for biometric face matching.

  • Tips for success:

    • Use good lighting (avoid backlight and shadows).

    • Hold the document steady and ensure all details are visible.

    • Selfie: look straight into the camera, don’t wear sunglasses or hats.

  • What happens: the system automatically checks the authenticity of the document and compares it to your selfie.

Step 6: Verify personal details (auto-filled)

  • Based on your document, the app automatically fills in your:

    • Full name (first, middle, last)

    • Date of birth

    • Gender

    • Country and city of birth

    • Citizenship

  • Your task: review carefully. If the OCR (scan) made a mistake — correct it manually.

  • Important: Any mismatch between document and data can delay approval.

Step 7: Verify address details (auto-filled where possible)

  • If your document contains your address, the app will pre-fill it.

  • You’ll see fields for:

    • Street and house number

    • Apartment/unit number (if applicable)

    • City

    • Postal code

    • Country

  • Proof of address: sometimes we’ll ask you to upload a supporting document (e.g. utility bill, residence permit, bank statement) issued within the last 3 months.

  • Tip: Make sure names and addresses match — if your document has an old address, provide a recent utility bill for confirmation.

Step 8: Employment and income details (auto-filled where available)

  • Some data (like profession or income source) may be pre-filled from your document.

  • Why we ask: EU financial regulations require us to understand your source of funds and expected account usage.

  • You may need to confirm:

    • Employment status (employed, self-employed, student, etc.)

    • Occupation/industry

    • Expected account turnover (monthly inflows/outflows)

    • Source of income (salary, savings, investments, etc.)

  • Tip: Don’t overthink — just provide honest answers. This is compliance, not taxation.

Step 9: Tax Identification Number (TIN)

  • In all jurisdictions, we must collect your Tax Identification Number (TIN).

  • You can provide it during registration or within one month after onboarding.

  • If you don’t yet have a TIN (for example, you’ve just relocated), you can proceed, but must submit it later to keep your account active.

  • Tip: Always use the TIN issued in your country of residence, not citizenship (unless they’re the same).

Step 10: Final review and submission

  • At this stage, all fields are completed and documents uploaded.

  • Carefully review the information — correcting mistakes now is much faster than later.

  • Once everything looks good, tap Submit.

What happens after submission

  • The system runs automated checks on your identity, documents, and data consistency.

  • In most cases, verification completes within minutes.

  • If something requires a manual review (blurry scan, mismatched data, unusual residency), it may take up to 1 business day.

  • Once approved, you’ll receive a notification in the app, and your account will be fully active.

Common reasons for delays

  • Blurry or cut-off document scans.

  • Expired or unsupported documents.

  • Address proof older than 3 months.

  • Missing TIN after the one-month grace period.
