Why this matters
The sooner you notice that someone else may be in your account, the more you can protect. Fraudsters move quickly once they gain access, so spotting the early signs — and acting on them — can stop a takeover before any money is lost. This article explains what to watch for and what to do the moment something looks wrong.
Signs of suspicious activity
Around access and login
Notifications about a login you don't recognise, or from an unfamiliar location or device.
Being suddenly logged out, or finding your password no longer works.
Prompts or messages about password or security changes you didn't request.
Around your account details
Your email, phone number, or address has changed without your action.
Your name or profile details look different.
Around your money
Transactions, transfers, or payments you didn't make.
Changes to limits or settings you didn't set.
Around people you know
Contacts tell you they received messages or money requests from you that you never sent.
Be careful how you react
Fraudsters exploit the fear of a "hacked account." A common scam is a fake security alert — a message or call warning of "suspicious login activity" and pushing you to click a link, share a code, or move money to "protect" it. That message is itself the attack.
So when you suspect a problem:
Don't click links in the alert message.
Don't share codes or passwords with anyone who contacts you about it.
Check your account directly by opening the official app yourself, not through any link.
What to do if you notice suspicious activity
Change your password immediately if you still have access.
Contact us straight away through the 24/7 support chat in the Blackcat or Blackcatcard app — we can help secure your account and stop suspicious activity.
Review your details and recent transactions, and note anything you didn't do.
Check your device for unfamiliar or remote-access apps and remove them.
Report it so we can investigate.
If you've been locked out completely, contact us through the official app channels on another device so we can verify your identity and help you regain access.
Staying ahead
Pay attention to account notifications rather than dismissing them.
Keep your contact details up to date so you actually receive important alerts.
Review your recent activity from time to time, especially after using public Wi-Fi or a shared device.
