Why this matters
If you think you've been scammed, acting quickly makes a real difference — especially in the first minutes. This is a calm, step-by-step guide for exactly that moment. Take a breath: what matters now is limiting the damage and getting help, not blaming yourself. Scammers are skilled, and being targeted is not your fault.
Do this first
Stop. Don't send any more money, click further links, or share anything else. Cut contact with the scammer.
Contact us immediately through the 24/7 support chat in the Blackcat or Blackcatcard app. The sooner we know, the more we can do to help secure your account and act on suspicious payments.
Change your password if you shared it or think your account was accessed — and change it anywhere you reused it.
Then, depending on what happened
If you sent money or made a payment
Tell us right away through the in-app chat with the details (amount, recipient, time).
Don't make any further payments.
If you shared card details
Contact us immediately so we can help secure your account.
If you shared login details or a verification code
Change your password and review your recent activity for anything you didn't do. → See: Recognising Suspicious Login Activity If you shared personal data (ID, address, etc.)
Stay alert for follow-up scams and impersonation. → See: Protecting Your Personal Data Online
If you installed an app or gave remote access
Remove the app and disconnect. Consider a security scan. → See: Recognising Malware & Malicious Apps
If you shared a crypto wallet recovery phrase
Treat that wallet as compromised. → See: Crypto Scams & Fake Platforms
Preserve the evidence
Keep everything: messages, emails, phone numbers, screenshots, payment details, and any names used.
This helps us investigate and can support any further reporting.
Beware the "recovery" follow-up scam
After a loss, you may be contacted by someone offering to recover your money — for a fee. This is a second scam that targets victims. Never pay anyone who promises to get your money back.
Report it
Report to us through the in-app support chat so we can act and protect other users.
Consider reporting to the police or your national fraud/consumer authority, which can be important for records and wider action.
Be kind to yourself
Scams are designed by professionals to deceive. Falling for one doesn't mean you were careless. Focus on the steps above, reach out for help, and don't let embarrassment stop you from acting — speed matters more than pride.
